Rototom & Friends in Zürich

Line-up in Zürich:  Junior Kelly, the Wailings Souls, Daniel Bambaata Marley, Randy Valentine, Lampadread & the Fireman Crew.

English version

Rototom (biggest reggae festival in Europe) this year from 13th-20th August. A “delegation” of artists who have played at Rototom, this spring was on tour in Europe.

BambaataMarleySThe Rototom & Friends tour ended yesterday in Zurich at the Rote Fabrik. Line-up in Zurich: Junior Kelly, the Wailings Souls, Daniel Bambaata Marley, Randy Valentine, Lampadread & the Fireman Crew.

We arrived late but just in time for Bambaataa, Ziggy Marley’s son in Zurich. He confidently put the technical difficulties, both at micro as well as with his guitar away. With compelling lyrics and powerful voice he walked through genres once rocking and once soulful. When someone in the audience demanded “Reggae” he countered promptly: “Reggae Music, Music-Music, Music is Music, do not put yourself into a box”. That is true and Bambaataa  has deserved truly Respect as a musician!

With a set of the stage, he landed during a song among the audience, which of course was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Too bad that every artist had only a short sequence, we would have liked even more “out of the box” music from Bambaata.

When Randy Valentine came on stage, my doughter was flashed with emotion. Now the audience git Reggae. But even here, it seemed to us damn short. Hardly on stage his part was already over. Only good that the festival season starts, we will surely hear more from him.

Highlight of the evening one of the Kings of Reggae Junior Kelly. Against his positive vibes are absolutely contagious. The most loving moment was when he turned in his song on an approximately 10-year boy at the edge of the stage. The boy looked at him with big eyes and his father was so proud. Junior Kelly is also proud “that parents bring their children to his concerts, it shows him that he is doing something right. If he would tell bullshit, parents would not take their kids with them.” (free quoted). He is fully aware of the great influence he has as a musician to the next generation and uses this.

Every time again it’s amazing with which energy Junior Kelly swirls across the stage while his voice was totally under control. #MassiveRespect.

And Zack, he jumped from the stage to perform in the middle of the audience. This reminded me of his gig 2008 at the Club Vaudeville in Lindau. There, the boys from the Security were “not amused” about the spontaneous action of him. Yesterday in the Rote Fabrik in Zurich, everything was easy. As always a successful mixture of new and old songs. I wonder if I will eventually see an gig without “Love so nice” 😉 There are already enough further hymns!

In the end you could see it in the faces – the Rototom Friends were happy about the successful tour. Congrats!
